CONTRECOEUR, August 15, 2014 – Unionized employees of the Contrecoeur West steelworks and bar mill (United Steelworkers-FTQ Local 6951) held a special general meeting earlier today and the majority voted to accept the proposal from the conciliator for the renewal of their collective agreement. This agreement will take effect today for a 6-year term. The current collective agreement expired on July 31, 2014. The agreement covers about 285 workers.

Contract talks resumed on August 11 with the assistance of a conciliator appointed by the Quebec department of labour, who submitted the contract proposal the union accepted to present to its members.

Management and the union are now working on implementing the back-to-work protocol to resume operations in the complex by Monday.
