Our Canadian reporting hub has recently been updated as part of the canada.arcelormittal.com microsite.
Smart steels are helping to reduce carbon emissions in vehicles and buildings, constructing sustainable cities and generating renewable energy.
Steel is part of the fabric of modern life. Buildings, roads, bridges, railways, cars… most everything around you wouldn’t exist without steel as a component. It is one of the world’s most sustainable materials because it’s strong, flexible and can be endlessly recycled.
We are part of the world’s largest steel and mining company and we have an opportunity — and responsibility — to lead the way in ensuring steel fulfils its potential as an essential material of the future. In our Canada Reporting Hub, we share how we are doing – both the wins and challenges.
Our Annual Sustainable Development Reporting is a key part of our commitment to transparency and open dialogue with our stakeholders. Six years of performance data, which reflect all of our Canadian operations, are now available on our Canadian hub. The data measures everything from our Health and Safety performance to how many hours of training employees receive on average, and the carbon intensity per tonne of steel and iron ore pellets to the amount of water discharge our sites produce.
Our performance is measured against our 10 Sustainable Development outcomes. These outcomes define the kind of company we want to be and year over year we are creating value as we progress against these outcomes. Our Sustainable Development framework also helps us secure the commercial success of our business in the medium term, while contributing to solving the world’s sustainable development challenges in the long term.
Take some time to visit the Reporting Hub, read about the 10 outcomes and our performance against them as well learn about some of our 2019 achievements like the construction of an internal road to connect our Contrecoeur complexes in order to reduce the impact on traffic and the environment, and the support to the health and safety of young hockey players during a regional tournament, to name a few.
