All our Canadian facilities adhere to the ISO 14001 standard, and all our Quebec plants are certified. Adherence to this voluntary environmental management standard demonstrates our commitment to reducing the impact of steelmaking on the environment. Our facilities are inspected annually to ensure compliance with local and national environmental policies and regulations.
At ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada, producing steel with a low carbon footprint is a priority. According to a study conducted for the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie, “[…] the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated during the production of secondary steel by electric arc furnace in Quebec are 46% to 60% lower than those emitted during the same production in China, Russia or the United States […]”.
What’s more, our electric arc furnaces use clean, renewable energy from Quebec’s hydroelectric plants.
ArcelorMittal is also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
