CONTRECOEUR, November 21, 2016 – ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada decided to support the Bowvember campaign for a second consecutive year to mark Prostate Cancer Month and to encourage prevention of this disease. On November 18, some fifty ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada employees wore the official Bowvember bow tie to show their support for this cause.
The bow ties were obtained from PROCURE, an organization dedicated to research and awareness about prostate cancer, in exchange for a donation. PROCURE provides many programs and activities to answer the needs of people impacted by prostate cancer. Each year, more than 4,600 Quebeckers receive a prostate cancer diagnosis – 12 per day or one every 120 minutes. It is an increasingly common health issue, but also one that can be treated without major after-effects if detected early on. Since our business takes place in a predominantly male environment, ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada wants to make sure its employees know when and how to act in prevention.
“We are dedicated in supporting the fight against prostate cancer, and sincerely hope our commitment will encourage early screening and ultimately save lives,” said Sujit Sanyal, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada. Across the province of Quebec, the company wants to make sure the message gets across everywhere possible; we are indeed very proud to join the efforts of our colleagues from ArcelorMittal Mining Canada and ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada, on Quebec’s North Shore and Greater Montreal regions, who have been partners of this cause for years.
Support for Bowvember is also a reminder that for us, health and safety go beyond preventing occupational accidents; our employees’ physical and mental health is a major concern for the company. ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada encourages its employees and the public to visit the www.procure.ca Web site to make a donation toward prostate cancer research and learn more about this disease.
