In collaboration with ArcelorMittal’s other Canadian business segments – ArcelorMittal Dofasco, ArcelorMittal Mining Canada, ArcelorMittal Infrastructure Canada, ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Canada, ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks Canada and Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation (joint ownership), we are proud to announce that our 2018 data for sustainability performance is now available. Our Canadian reporting hub has recently been updated as part of the canada.arcelormittal.com microsite.
Our Annual Sustainable Development Reporting is a key part of our commitment to transparency and open dialogue with our stakeholders and is a complement to ArcelorMittal’s global Annual Review. Five years of performance data, which reflect all of our Canadian operations, are also available.
Steel is part of the fabric of modern life. Buildings, roads, bridges, railways, cars…most everything around you, wouldn’t exist without steel as a component. It is one of the world’s most sustainable materials because it’s strong, flexible and can be endlessly recycled.
While innovative steel products are helping to reduce carbon emissions in vehicles and buildings, constructing smarter cities and generating renewable energy, steel faces challenges. We have to find ways to make the mining and steelmaking processes more sustainable, energy efficient and less carbon intensive.
We are part of the world’s largest steel and mining company and we have an opportunity — and responsibility — to lead the way in ensuring steel fulfils its potential as an essential material of the future. In our Canada Reporting Hub, we share how we are doing – both the wins and challenges.
Our performance is measured against our 10 Sustainable Development outcomes. These outcomes define the kind of company we want to be and year over year we are creating value as we progress against these outcomes. Our Sustainable Development framework also helps us secure the commercial success of our business in the medium term, while contributing to solving the world’s sustainable development challenges in the long term. On our Reporting Hub, you can read more about our outcomes and how we are measuring up against each of them, while learning about some of the work we completed in 2018 through our case studies.
