New Collective Agreement for Contrecoeur East and Longueuil
CONTRECOEUR, February 16, 2016 – Following general special meetings held over the last few days, a majority of unionized employees of the ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada facilities in Contrecoeur East and Longueuil have voted to accept the terms of the February 9 agreement for the renewal of their bargaining contracts. The agreements have a retroactive effective date of February 1, 2016 for a 6-year term. Previous agreements expired on January 31, 2016.
The agreements cover about 800 people, namely operations and maintenance employees of the Contrecoeur East steelworks, bar mill and reduction plant (local 6586), Contrecoeur East office employees (local 8060) and operations and maintenance employees of the Longueuil bar mill (local 8897).
The company is satisfied with the ratification of the agreements, which are a positive outcome for our employees while being adapted to a volatile economy and a context of long-term low metals prices. At the same time, they support the competitiveness and sustainability of our organization in order to safely manufacture quality steel for our customers.
