Special Bar Quality (SBQ)
Special bar quality, or SBQ, refers to types of steel bars used in the manufacturing of components that require a superior surface.
ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada supplies special quality bars for forgers who work in the automotive and energy sectors, and for special uses such as in the railway industry. Another important market is cold finishers who supply many industrial sectors, acting as service centers to meet their clients’ needs.
Applications may include gears, axles, drive trains and suspensions for a wide range of industries including automobiles, off-highway vehicles and industrial capital equipment. More specifically, SBQ is used in:
- Automotive, from heavy duty trucks’ to light trucks’ applications (yokes, rings, forged parts going into drive shafts, axles)
- The energy sector (valves, pipes and fittings, hydraulic shafts)
- Agriculture (parts for loaders, farm equipment, land diggers)
- Industrial sector (hooks)
- Transportation
- Other industries

Special Bar Quality steel (SBQ) is specified when precise control of chemistry, surface quality, and internal cleanliness is required. It is used for hot forgings, cold finished bars (drawn or ground), heat treated bars and components.

Finishing
Bundle saw cutting and straightening of round bars up to 2″ diameter is available.
