After successfully installing a new reheating furnace at our Contrecoeur-West bar mill last summer, ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada has just completed a similar operation at its Contrecoeur-Est wire rod mill. An official ceremony marked the commissioning of the new equipment in the presence of management, union representatives, employees and the project team. This CAD$30 million investment was made on budget and on schedule, without any accident, while ensuring continuous plant operations.

As part of a cycle of nearly CAD$70 million in modernization initiatives, these two furnaces will allow for greater plant productivity, optimal energy use and a greenhouse gas reduction of approximately 20,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent of removing 5,000 cars from the road. Their replacement is part of a series of strategic projects announced in 2018.

Congratulations to all those who have contributed directly or indirectly to making these investments a reality.
