Recruitment at the 4.0 speed!

20 October 2020

Every year, hundreds of people apply for jobs at ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada. As with many other Human Resources functions, we have made the decision to enhance our recruitment capabilities with the deployment of an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) based on the Oracle suite. Already used elsewhere at ArcelorMittal but for which we are the pilot site in North America, this suite makes the recruitment experience even more efficient and user-friendly. This is the case for external candidates as well as for members of our recruiting team and supervisors who need to execute transactions surrounding personnel requests.

With an ATS, candidates will have access to a dynamic web platform that will continue to be accessible through the long-canada.arcelormittal.com web page. In addition to positions available at Long Canada Products, users will be able to access job postings from other ArcelorMittal sites that use this platform. When applying online, candidates will now be required to create a user account. This account will allow the system to create a profile that will bring together several pieces of information that will be useful in the recruitment process, hiring and eventual creation of the employee file. This will limit double entries and errors and automate several steps in the process.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Internally, the internal personnel request process will now be entirely managed by the ATS. This activity, which used to involve numerous manual tasks by human resources, operations and services, will now be carried out online. With more rigour and more tracking capabilities, this process should now be streamlined.

Our Talent Acquisition Manager, Aurélie Boffredo, sums up the advantages of using an ATS in a few words: “As in all areas of ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada’s activities, the automation of several administrative functions allows us to devote more time to value-added tasks. For human resources, this means putting more emphasis on the personal contact with candidates, welcoming new employees and focusing on professional development. For managers, the process will also be fully automated, improving workflow and efficiency.”

For both the members of the recruitment team and the managers, there will of course be an adjustment period. Several training sessions for managers have been organized in recent weeks to familiarize them with the platform and its features. We are truly committed to putting “people first”, as the first pillar of our strategic vision states!
